Active Trainer: Changing the way children with disabilities experience skateboarding

A groundbreaking initiative is set to change the way children with disabilities experience skateboarding. A custom-built mobility frame, designed and crafted by local furniture manufacturer Furnware, was unveiled at Bay Skate, promising newfound freedom and joy for young adventurers.

The idea stemmed from paediatric physiotherapist Ginny Couch, driven by her passion for inclusive activities. One of her 5-year-old clients, who has cerebral palsy, received a skateboard for Christmas. Ginny's determination to make the joy of skateboarding accessible to every child, made her reach out to the local community. This resulted in a collaboration with Furnware to design the special mobility frame on wheels, allowing children with physical disabilities to take part in skateboarding. 

The frame, equipped with a Guldmann Active Trainer for kids, ensures stability and comfort. Bungee straps keep the child secure in the vest, as an adult guides the rig.

The ingenious mobile rail system and Active Trainer have not only transformed a young boy's Christmas gift into a life-changing opportunity but also opened doors for countless other children facing similar challenges.
