Positioning leg straps in a wheelchair
Three good tips:
Positioning leg straps
in a wheelchair
When you are applying the lifting sling before a transfer, it can sometimes be hard to position the leg straps if the legs are particularly heavy, edematous or if the skin is very sensitive.
The following tips can make the job easier for you:
1: Place the patient's foot on the wheelchair's footrest, creating more room for the leg strap.
2: Use a small piece of slide sheet to help position the strap.
3: If the leg is very heavy, lift it with a leg sling to make more room.
