The Glen Lake Accessible Playground Project

Glen Lake Elementary in Minnetonka, MN has started a student and staff lead initiative to create a new and fully accessible playground: the Glen Lake Accessible Playground Project. This project is meant to create equitable play opportunities to grow connections and friendships between students who use wheelchairs, and their peers that do not. Not only will accessible equipment greatly enhance the general outdoor experience for the students, but it will be an incredible asset to the Minnetonka community.
When Guldmann first learned about the Glen Lake Accessible Playground Project, we knew this was something we wanted to be a part of and were thrilled to contribute in some way. Guldmann often makes contributions to philanthropic endeavours that are in keeping with our company ethos of Time to Care and Access for All. The students’ spirit, determination, and kindness resonated with our team and embodied community, inclusion, and our own company’s values. So, in June 2024, a couple of our Guldmann teammates took a trip to Glen Lake Elementary to donate $5,000 to the Glen Lakes Accessible Playground Project.

Guldmann was well received and celebrated by the community. Students from two elementary schools were present, along with many teachers and parents celebrating the end of the school year, groundbreaking on the next phase of playground construction, and the donation from Guldmann.

Principal Jeff Radel remarked that they are so grateful for Guldmann’s generous donation to their accessible playground efforts because it supports the students and community goals for everyone to play.

Compass Teacher Sher Unruh-Friesen, noted that having inclusive play spaces allows all kids to play together, promoting comfort and mutual communication through their shared experiences.

These remarkable students and their mentors have even established a non-profit company – so they can continue their efforts to assist all communities with similar goals.
