Patient Story: Emilee

Emilee was admitted to the ICU at Peterborough Regional Health Centre (PRHC) on February 4th, 2020. She was paralyzed from the eyes down and was diagnosed with Acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis, a rare type of inflammation that affects the brain and spinal cord. 

Peterborough Regional Health Centre is a state-of-the-art health care facility in Canada, serving a regional population of 300,000 in four counties.

Emilee started physiotherapy at the end of March and could not even support herself when sitting. She could not drink or eat on her own. But with every little movement, she got better. 

PRCH has a Guldmann ceiling hoist with a Trainer module installed in their training facilities. The Trainer module has dynamic weight relief that supports whatever amount of weight the patient needs. This prevents fall injuries and improves the safety of both patients and staff. The staff can concentrate on the quality of movement. 

When Emilee was in the Trainer module she felt much more confident because she knew that if her legs failed her, the sling would hold her and the fall would be slow, controlled and safe.
