Selecting the most suitable length of ramp


Always select the longest possible ramp. The longer the ramp, the less the gradient to overcome.


In general the following lengths of ramps are recommended in relation to the gradient indicated:


For independent users of manual wheelchairs:
Max. gradient: 1:7

For manual wheelchairs pushed by a helper and for electric wheelchairs:
Max. gradient: 1:5

Differences of height, cm


To overcome a height difference of 20 cm and a maximum gradient of 1:5 a ramp of 100 cm would be suitable (5 x 20 = 100).
